Winters nowadays are more wet and muddy than crisp and snowy. The river Stour near where I live in Suffolk has flooded a number of times already this year and its banks and the surrounding woodland are perpetually waterlogged. But occasionally on a rare bright day the combination of light, wood and water catches the eye and inspires a painting.
